Etisalat to launch in Egypt tomorrow
Posted by TeleGeography on April 30th, 2007 - 6:04 am Etisalat will launch Egypt's third mobile phone network tomorrow, and will be operating over a 3.5G platform. The new network has been built by Ericsson of Sweden and China’s Huawei at a cost of USD1.2 billion. The network will initially cover Greater Cairo, Alexandria, Aswan, Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Luxor. Etisalat won the third wireless consortium on 4 July 2006, with a bid of EGP16.7 billion (EUR2.29 billion). The new venture will compete with existing service providers Vodafone and Mobinil.
